Moving can be a stressful time for us all, so our Salford team have put together a list of common mistakes that people make while moving in to their new home, and (most importantly) how to avoid them!

Moving Company

It’s so easy to hire the first moving company that you find, especially when you have lots of other things to be thinking about, but try to set aside some time to really research different companies.

How to avoid this issue

Make a list of things that you want and need from your moving company. Speak to a few different companies and see which service best lines up with what you need. Another thing to check is that they have good customer reviews (Feefo is a great place for this).

Forgetting To Label Boxes

Although this may seem like an obvious task, you should label all your moving boxes. This will not only help you to organise it when you move in to your new home (putting all the kitchen boxes into the kitchen etc.), but also will mean you don’t have to open all your boxes just to find your toothbrush!

How to avoid this issue

With a little pre-planning it’s easy to make your move a lot smoother. You could buy colour coded pens for each room, use different coloured tapes for each room, and also make a list of the items in the box. You should also pack an “essentials box” for all the items that you will need for the first couple of days. For more packing tips check out our packing tips blog post.

Choosing The Wrong Size Self Storage Room

Choosing the wrong storage unit size is just another headache for you to worry about. You definitely don’t want to turn up on your self storage move in day, and then realise you have too much stuff to fit in your storage unit. Similarly, you don’t want to move in and realise that you have too much space and will be wasting money by not filling the unit.

How to avoid this issue

Although The Store Room is very flexible and will try to offer you a different storage size if you get to us and realise that you will need more space, this isn’t always possible. You can check out our size guide online, but we recommend that you come down to one of our self storage facilities in person, and have a look at the different sizes, as well as having a chat with our knowledgeable staff, who will help tailor the best storage solution for you!

If you’re planning a home move in the near future, and you think self storage would make your move easier, The Store Room is ready to help!
