Have you ever wondered how much different houses cost from films or TV shows? The Store Room’s Leicester storage team have created a list so you don’t have to wonder any more. We have also recommended how much storage space each home would need!

Monica’s Apartment In Friends

In today’s prices it is estimated that Monica’s apartment, which is said to be in Greenwich Village, would cost roughly $4,500 (£3,600) per month! Her apartment was a 2 bed, 1 bath, with an open plan living, kitchen and dining space, and a small terrace.

For this size apartment, we would recommend that they use a 100 to 150 sq ft storage unit depending on how much of their eclectic furniture they want to store!

The Home Alone House

The best film to get you in the Christmas spirit is Home Alone, but we have always wanted to know what a house like that would cost. The house located in Winnetka, Illinois, is estimated to be worth $1,725,000 (or ~£1,380,000). The home has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with over 4,200 sq ft of space to enjoy.

For this size home we would recommend anything from 200 to 300 sq ft of storage space.

Sherlock Holmes’ Baker Street Flat

The Store Room’s Leicester team have felt like detectives while trying to find out the prices of these famous homes, but this is a flat for an actual detective! Sherlock Holmes is said to have live in 221B, Baker Street London, and filming took place in North Gower Street in London. Sherlock’s home was a 1 bed, 1 bath, terraced flat.

We would recommend in the region of a 50 to 75 sq ft storage unit for this modest flat.

Harry Potter's Home at 4 Privet Drive

4 Privet Drive

This house should need no introduction! Although the Dursleys home wasn’t exactly Harry Potter’s favourite place, he did grow up on 4 Privet Drive in Surrey. The filming location was actually in Bracknell, Berkshire, and the home is said to have 4 bedrooms (and an extra under the stairs!), and is a semi-detached house in a quiet cul-de-sac. It is estimated to be worth ~£549,750.

For this size home we would recommend a 150 to 200 sq ft unit (unless you’re Harry Potter and can borrow your friends flying car to move all your belongings for you!)

Mark and Jeremy From Peep Show

Peep Show Flat

Mark and Jeremy made us fall in love with them as we listen to their inner thoughts, whether dark, stupid or embarrassing. The 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom (sometimes without a door!) flat is located in the London borough of Croydon, and the man-pad in Apollo House is in a desirable commuter belt of London which means it is worth £250,000.

We would recommend for Mark and Jez to use a 75 to 100 sq ft storage unit.

As with all estimates, the actual size of storage unit required is very much dependent on the amount of items you have. Some people may live in a larger home and be very minimalist, conversely, someone living in a small flat might have a lot of items they have accumulated and need to store.

The best way to establish what size is required is to speak to one of our trained storage specialists either over the phone or in person where they can discuss what you have and your requirements and then advise you on the best options. You can also see our blog post about what recommended storage size you need, and get a quote online. We have self storage facilities in Leeds, Leicester, Bradford, Rotherham, Salford and Preston.
