2024 Bank Holiday’s

One of the best tips is to plan your annual leave around the bank holidays, creating extended periods of relaxation and fun! Whether you want to go away for a few weeks, or just a long weekend, combining the trip with a bank holiday is a great way to extend your break.

  • New Year’s Day: Monday 1st January
  • Good Friday: Friday 29th March
  • Easter Monday: Monday 1st April
  • Early May Bank Holiday: Monday 6th May
  • Spring Bank Holiday: Monday 27th May
  • Summer Bank Holiday: Monday 26th August
  • Christmas Day: Tuesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day: Wednesday 26th December

Optimise Bank Holidays

Here’s how to optimise the bank holidays to give you the most consecutive days off.

Easter Break (2 weeks)

Book from Monday 25th March – Thursday 28th March, and Tuesday 2nd April – Friday 5th April.

This means you will leave the office on Friday 22nd March and return on Monday 8th April. That’s 14 days off, but only using 8 days of annual leave.

May Break (1 week)

Book from Tuesday 7th May – Friday 10th May, or Tuesday 28th May – Friday 31st May.

May is a great month to take your annual leave because there are two bank holidays (one at the beginning and one at the end of the month). If you book the Tuesday-Friday off, then you will have a week off work but only use 4 days annual leave.

Summer Break (1 week)

Book from Tuesday 27th August – Friday 30th August.

You can use the same idea as above for the August bank holiday, which will give you a week off work but only use 4 days of annual leave. If you have a few extra days of annual leave spare you could always add extra days to the beginning or end of this.

Christmas Time (2+ weeks)

Book from Monday 23rd December – Monday 2nd January 2025.

It’s important to make sure you have enough days of annual leave left for the festive season (that is, if you want them of course)! If you book these dates you will enjoy 16 days out of the office, but only use 7 days annual leave.

Left Overs:

If you have 25 days annual leave and you follow this guide, you will have 2 days of annual leave left over, so you could either add them to make one holiday longer, or use them to make a couple of long weekends.

Of course, you can plan your annual leave however you want – sometimes the bank holidays don’t line up with when you want to take a break, or perhaps you prefer to go on short weekend breaks (little and often as they say)! However, you choose to spend your annual leave, we hope you have a wonderful time.
