It’s that time of year again where we are getting excited to host Cash for Kids Mission Christmas over the festive period! This year we will be acting as “Mission HQ”, not only at our Leeds self storage site (covering Cash for Kids North and West Yorkshire) as we have done for many years, but also at our newly refurbished Rotherham self storage site (covering Cash for Kids South Yorkshire and Derbyshire)!
We provide space year-round at these facilities to store the generous donations the charity receives, but for Mission Christmas we are providing the substantial additional space required to make sure their operations run smoothly and that all the gifts they receive can be efficiently sorted and distributed to fulfill the requests they receive.
With the opening of our Solihull self storage facility earlier this year, we are also delighted to be supporting Cash For Kids Midlands with space to store donations year-round.
What Is Mission Christmas and Why Is It Important?
The Cash for Kids “Mission Christmas” campaign is the largest children’s gift appeal in the UK, and it aims to deliver disadvantaged local children and young people with a present to open on Christmas Day. Businesses and individuals choose to donate new, unopened gifts, and the exceptional Cash For Kids volunteers (or elves as they are affectionately known) collect, sort, and distribute them to struggling families who need the support most.
In 2024, 1 in 6 parents or carers surveyed were unable to afford Christmas presents for their children due to the financial constraints. Mission Christmas raised over £15 million, which meant that 309,966 children woke up to a Christmas present that otherwise wouldn’t have done. This is a momentous achievement, and we look forward to helping them achieve fantastic things again this year!
How Can I Help?
We are often asked what the best way to help is, and the simple answer is to make a cash donation! The reason for this is that due to the connections the charity has, they can TRIPLE the value of any cash donations when it comes to buying gifts for children living in poverty.
We have set up fundraising pages for our customers, contacts and the general public and we would like to ask you to make a donation, no matter how big or small, to Cash For Kids - this will be greatly appreciated and we have seen first hand the difference it can make. Below you will find links to the pages we have set up for our Leeds and Rotherham locations:
- Buy a gift and drop it off (unwrapped) to one of the convenient drop off points – with The Store Room in Leeds and The Store Room in Rotherham counted among them.
- Donate a gift online: Short on time but still want to make a difference? Donating online is a quick and meaningful way to contribute. Simply browse the gift list, choose the items you’d like to give, and follow the easy payment steps – your items will then be delivered directly to Mission Christmas HQ. The list is regularly updated to reflect the age groups most in need in your area, ensuring your donation has the greatest impact.
