What Is The Store Room Doing to Reach Net Zero?

At The Store Room, we know that running self storage facilities across the country comes with a responsibility to think about our environmental impact. We have a clear and focused plan to reduce that impact, and we wanted to share what we're doing and why it matters!

Energy-Saving Lighting

We're continuing our roll out of energy-saving, proximity-activated LED lighting throughout our self storage facilities. It's estimated that each LED bulb contributes to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 50 to 70% compared to traditional lighting.

Solar Power in Action

We've installed solar panels at 66% of our existing buildings to generate electricity within each facility, and we're continuing to work with a nationwide supplier to make sure we have the latest, most efficient systems in place. Solar panels will also be an integral part of all our new developments going forward.

Building Sustainably for the Future

All our new-build, state-of-the-art facilities are constructed to the highest sustainability standards, and we're aiming to achieve net zero carbon levels in the construction of our new sites.

Recycling & Reducing Waste

Every facility supports recycling initiatives, our packaging materials are sustainably sourced, and customers have access to recycling options for their own packaging. We also recycle all of our IT equipment once it's reached the end of its life.

Room for Nature

Where possible, our new facilities aim to plant trees, grow hedges and leave areas for wild-growing flowers, so we can contribute to the biodiversity of the areas in which we operate.

Cutting Down on Paper

We're continuously striving to reduce our use of paper, building on significant strides already made, and leaning on new technology and processes to keep minimising paper use across the business.
