A common misconception about self storage is that you need to fill a large room with all your items to make it worthwhile. While The Store Room do provide  large storage rooms, we also offer lockers or small rooms which are perfect for decluttering! One brilliant example of decluttering is creating a capsule wardrobe full of classic and timeless pieces. A capsule wardrobe has a limited number of staple items that can be mixed together to create different looks.

The Preston storage team are big fans of decluttering, and they have put together a few benefits of having a capsule wardrobe:

Saves you money:

If you have essential pieces that you can wear in multiple different ways with the rest of your wardrobe, then you won’t feel the need to keep buying new clothes. Also, if they are good quality, they should last you longer too! If you follow the steps to creating a capsule wardrobe you will have good quality clothes, utilise your current clothes, and won’t need to spend money buying new clothes for each season.

More sustainable:

The fashion industry is responsible for more carbon emissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. Choosing to have a capsule wardrobe means you won’t need to buy many clothes and will stop contributing to fast fashion and make more sustainable choices. Shockingly 3 out of 5 fast fashion items end up in landfill within a year of purchase!

Helps you declutter:

Studies have shown that cortisol levels, that contribute to stress, are increased in people who have a cluttered home. By decluttering your wardrobe (and home if you’re feeling up to it), you will increase focus and improve productivity, while reducing decision fatigue. Store your out-of-season clothes out of sight (The Store Room storage units are great for this!), and when you swap your seasonal clothes, there will be pieces you have forgotten about. It’s like going shopping and getting the ‘shoppers high’ without buying anything!

There are many different articles online to tell you what to include in your capsule wardrobe and you can find lots of great tips for building your capsule wardrobe with a quick google search.
