Coronation Street

The worlds longest-running television soap opera, shown on ITV since 1960. The program focuses on ‘Coronation Street’: a terraced street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based on inner-city Salford. The show has featured a number of famous faces as guest stars over the years, including Joanna Lumley, Peter Kay, Paddy McGuiness, and even HRH Prince Charles!

Life on Mars

British TV series broadcast between Jan 2006 and April 2007. The program tells the story of police officer Sam Tyler (played by John Simm) from the Greater Manchester Police, who gets hit by a car in 2006 and wakes up in 1973. He finds himself working in a police station, and doesn’t know whether he’s asleep, dead, or in a coma – his ambition throughout the series is to get home, but the majority of the show acts like a conventional police drama.

The Circle (Reality TV Show)

The original British version of The Circle is where people from all walks of life compete in a popularity contest via a social media platform called The Circle to win a cash prize. Each player lives in isolation, and their only communication with the other players is through the social media platform, so some people might be catfishing. In recent years they have also made The Celebrity Circle for Stand Up to Cancer.

Having been broadcast since October 1958, Blue Peter is the longest-running children’s TV show in the world. The programme originally was filmed in BBC Television Centre in London, and then moved to MediaCityUK in Salford, in September 2011.

Fun Fact – One of The Store Room employees owns a gold Blue Peter badge. Gold badges are very rare and are only awarded in exceptional circumstances for outstanding achievements, for example being responsible for saving someone’s life or showing amazing and unique bravery, courage, or citizenship.

Four Lives: TV series 2022

First aired this year 3rd-5th January 2022 on BBC One. This TV series follows the true story of the families of four young gay men, who were murdered by Stephen Port. Stephen Merchant plays serial killer Port with Sheridan Smith as Sarah Sak, the mother of Anthony Walgate (Port’s first victim).

Match Of The Day

Match of the day first aired in August 1964, and is a football highlights and analysis programme. It was originally broadcast from the BBC Television Centre in London, but filming moved to MediaCityUK in Salford in 2012. The show’s current presenter is former England international striker Gary Lineker, and each episode has expert pundits of English Premier League football matches.

Fun Fact – The shows theme tune was voted the most recognised TV theme tune in 2010.
