Lockdown has been an opportunity for many of us to take up new hobbies and learn new skills – or at least, to say we will! However, it is never too late to get started. If you are looking for a bit of inspiration, staff at our Salford self storage facility have some recommendations for hobbies from Salford-based organisations:

Humbug Art’s “Art for Enjoyment” Class

Art is a popular hobby, not just due to the de-stressing effects, but also because of its accessibility – making it a perfect lockdown hobby. Humbug Art is a Salford-based art studio, which has been required to shut due to the pandemic. In order to bring the benefits of art to as many people as possible, the studio has launched a virtual ‘pay what you feel’ art class.

An Online Wine Tasting Event

If you’re looking for a special treat to make your weekend more exciting, then the online events from Manchester Wine School are perfect. You can book on to one of their organised events, or plan a private tasting. Their next event is on the 6th March at 7.30pm, tasting wine from Portugal. A list of recommended wine purchases are provided, and then the purchase of one ticket will allow your whole household to join! Find out more about other events and how they work here.

Learn Spanish

Being able to speak another language is a valuable skill, and a great way to pass the time in lockdown. Salford-based Spanish Shack provides classes via Skype, offering 1-to-1 classes for reasonable prices, tailored to your ability. Find out more here.

Learn How to Speed Read

If you’re looking to improve your efficiency with reading, whether you are a student, professional or lifelong learner, then a Speed Reading Class from IrisReading.com may be of interest. The event will teach speed-reading techniques and how to improve your comprehension. To sign up for the free Manchester-based event, go to their website. They also offer sessions on how to improve your memory, and how to improve your focus and limit distractions.

Hopefully, one of these activities will be of interest to you or someone you know…in fact, Dan from our Salford storage site is hoping to learn a foreign language over the next few months!
